ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Ongoing Research

Our ongoing research examines the relationship between actual financial competence and third-party reports of financial competence using the FCAI. The FCAI was administered to a group of participants with various types of cognitive impairment  (i.e., acquired brain injury, dementia, intellectual disability, and schizophrenia). The newly developed FCAI Third-party Response Form was administered to a group of caregivers who had each known a specific participant with cognitive impairment for more than six months and believed they were in a position to comment on the particular participant's financial abilities. The relationships between FCAI scores for the participants with a cognitive impairment and the caregivers (third-party respondents) were then compared. The results of this study were presented at the International Convention of Applied Psychology in Melbourne, Australia and at the 2nd World Congress on Adult Guardianship, Melbourne, Australia in 2012 (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV2rUr4-rJA).
